How to let other people stop controlling you

How to let other people stop controlling you?

Seeing men and women even in their thirties having other people manipulate them like puppets on a string.

It is sometimes important to be considerate of other people’s feelings to maintain relationships, but not at the cost of being true to yourself.

Trying to please family and friends running around like a yo yo is crazy.

In South Asian culture, it is  a given expectation that you bend yourself out of shape for other people. It is considered rude and inconsiderate to assert yourself. It may be very beneficial for the person at the receiving end of that treatment.

However, what happens to the person who is trying to accommodate everyone.

It is impossible to keep everyone happy all the time; let alone finding any solace in your own self.

Being true to yourself and following your own true calling requires that you are nice, but firm about your own decisions and actions.

How to let other people stop controlling you?

Here are some questions to ask:

  • Do you know yourself?
  • What is important to you?
  • What are your own priorities?
  • What are you trying to achieve?
  • What are your non-negotiable?

It is also frustrating to be friends with or have relationship with people who are on a roller coaster of other people’s approval and running around to please the world. You will be on that roller coaster with them.

As nice as that person is, it is difficult, frustrating and disappointing to be with them.

Hope this encourages you to stop allowing other people to run, control and manipulate your life.

Listen to everyone, but make your own decisions.

Even if you are fearful of being wrong, making a mistake or messing up. Still make decisions yourself. With time and practice, you will get better and learn to make better decisions and start controlling your own life from your inner core and strength.

How to let other people stop controlling you is an open dialogue, please feel free to contribute.
