Living With Fear As A South Asian Woman

Living With Fear As A South Asian Woman

In the developed world, it is unfathomable that a human being especially a woman will be living in fear.

For years, if I can count 5, I had night mares that someone was coming to kill me including my family members.

However unfortunate or unreal, it may seem. This fear and reality is true.

I just met a woman who told me that she has been living in a jail in her own home for 12 years.

Just because of her children, she has been tolerating the entire situation of being in fear of her husband.

As foreign this concept it may be, however this fear is the truth to many South Asian women who are dominated by their family members.

How can someone possibly free them?

Taking them out of their home and sending them to a shelter may seem like a solution at the time, however how about the price that they have to pay.

  • Loosing their family completely
  • Their identity
  • Their culture
  • Their religion
  • Their food
  • Their language
  • Their sense of support

If you gave a South Asian woman choice of her freedom and well being or her children, she would choose her children over anything.

Living With Fear As A South Asian Woman is an open dialogue.
