We will not forget South Asian women vigil Lakhvir Dhaliwal

What happened to Lakvir Dhaliwal? 37 years old South Asian female mother of two.

What is happening in our community?

When a woman dies an untimely death, it is no longer a hushed matter, a matter of family or community pride.

We will never forget vigil is for South Asian women who have been killed by perpetrator’s who think they can and get away with it. An example must be set and justice must be served. SAWNTV.COM will run a series on each woman who was a victim and to keep her memory alive.

A human life
A woman
A South Asian
A victim
Someone’s daughter
Someone’s sister
Someone’s mother
Someone’s wife

Above all it could be you, your daughter, sister, mother or wife.

There is very little in the media. No picture of this woman.

Not to blow this out of proportion, but what was the cause of this young mother’s death???

Although the justice will be served, however what was the problem that caused the death of this woman???

Is it one off or should we be concerned about a pattern???

Who or what are we going to hold accountable?

Domestic Violence is NOT acceptable regardless of generation and culture.

After writing this blog, an actual vigil was held outside Lakhvir Dhaliwal’s house on June 28, 2012 at 8:30 pm organized by volunteers.

South Asian Women Network TV is pleased that the community picked up this idea and did something about it.

Since, there has been more attention given to the matter.

The cause of Lakhvir Dhaliwal’s death is being called “domestic violence” due to recession.

Were the cases as many before or we are now highlighting South Asian community, hence they seem more.

More attention being given by NGOs.

If you would like to contribute to this vigil by adding all media articles, any pictures and information, please contact us at info@sawntv.com. Thank you.
