Why South Asian Women Need A Voice

Why South Asian Women Need A Voice?

If and when an incident takes place relating to South Asian women, who is standing up for them and ensuring that their voice is heard.

Besides their voice and bringing awareness to their problems, we need accountability, ownership and responsibility on the part of leaders to find and implement workable solutions.

There has to be serious repercussions to people’s actions when they hurt, kill or abuse South Asian women. As perpetrator’s get away and justice is not served due to the “silence.”

May this silence be due to protecting your own family members, to avoid shame or self-preservation, the injustice will keep haunting until justice is served.

If I had it my way, I would have a free confidential hot line only for South Asian women.

One 1-800 #, a chat and e-mail ability to answer their questions in their cultural, religious and family context.

There are efforts by different agencies, activists and individuals. Location dependent and specific culture orientation allows them to only concentrate on a certain segment of South Asian women advocacy.

However there is no united front.

South Asian Women Network TV is a platform that can be used to bring together different efforts in the media, government bodies and leaders in the community.
